This year, the Volkswagen Group will enter the Transversal Modular Platform (MQB) for Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda and Seat brands. The MQB strategy represents a turning point in the design and production of future cars with transverse mounted engines.
The standardized transverse modular platform many parameters of the vehicle components, regardless of the brand and nor the segment. At the same time, it offers access to new technologies. The MQB extends from segment A0 to the B. In the Volkswagen brand, for example, it applies to polo, beetle, golf, scirocco, jetta, tiguan, touran, share, passat and volkswagen cc models. In the future, all these models in could be theoretically produced in the same assembly line, despite their different distances and widths between axes. It will also be possible to jointly produce MQB models of different brands. The first new vehicles to be produced from the MQB will be the successor of the Audi A3 and the next generation of the golf.
