Foam in Blazer Radiator - Posted by manual-mecanica
:( Hi, if anyone can help me, I discovered a creamy white foam with a brownish tint on the radiator of my Blazer, and the transmission isn't working. Could it be a transmission fluid leak through the radiator circuit? The radiator has a transmission fluid circuit, and the engine temperature isn't going above 95%. The radiator had coolant. Please help, clarify my doubts...

Greetings machonegro, indeed, the transmission fluid passes through a pipe, usually copper, from one of the radiator tanks for cooling. When it mixes with the water, it creates that foamy, coffee-like appearance. The serious damage is to the transmission itself. Just as the fluid passes to the radiator, the water enters the transmission, and even when the car is in Park, if the engine is running, it continues to circulate inside. Don't use the vehicle anymore. Repair the radiator damage, and among other things, have the transmission checked. Change the fluid, and if there's a method for cleaning it internally, do so. As a side note, if you read the transmission fluid specifications, you'll see it contains additives like antioxidants and anti-foaming agents; these are the effects that must be avoided for proper transmission function and durability.

Manual-mechanics response on the topic Re: FOAM IN BLAZER RADIATOR
Thanks Walfi, that's what I feared. I had everything ready for the replacement, the filter, I just needed the oil, Dexron III, and this happened... I suppose I should open the transmission pan and drain all the bad oil from the gearbox? I once read that to drain all the oil you have to turn the ignition on and shift through all the different gears: R, N, (D), D, 2, 1... so the valves open and all the oil comes out... the same when you put in new oil... : HUH:

Greetings, if something like that is needed, you'll have to drain the oil that remains in the torque converter (here it's called the turbine), which also holds quite a bit of oil (it can hold several liters). There are machines that do this, but the local way is to disconnect one of the transmission hoses that goes to the radiator, place a container at both ends (the oil will come out of one of the two ends when you start the engine), add the new oil (obviously after having drained the old oil from the oil pan), with the engine in park, start it without accelerating and observe the oil that comes out (the transmission oil will come out of one of the two ends you disconnected). When you see that the oil is clean (bright red since it's new), turn off the engine and reconnect the hose to the radiator. This process removes the oil from the turbine. There are several videos on YouTube that illustrate the process better; search "change transmission oil" on YouTube.

Thanks again Wolfi, despite the problem, the help from people puts me in a good mood, because it's good to acquire knowledge from other people to meet your needs. :)
