Hello comrades, I have a 1996 Ford Contour with the following problem: it takes a long time to start, and once it starts, you can turn it off and it will start again instantly without any issues. However, if I leave it off for more than half an hour, it won't start again and it's very difficult to get it going. I removed the fuel rail, and when I turned the ignition on, I expected that one of the injectors might be leaking and flooding the engine, as it seemed that way, since even the spark plugs were coming out very black even though I had just cleaned them. But to my surprise, the injectors weren't leaking. I measured the fuel rail pressure, and it's holding steady at 2.5 bar.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions, and thank you in advance.

Manual-mechanics response on the topic: urgent help needed with ignition on a Contour 2.0
It could be due to a problem with the spark plugs, which might have a different heat range than the manufacturer's.
- Test the resistance of the spark plug wires; a weak spark can cause incomplete combustion.
- If the spark plugs have oil on them, check the compression or valve stem seals.
Good luck.

Thank you very much, my good Guillermo.
I'll pay attention to the spark plugs and wires. As for the dirt on the spark plugs, it's soot, not oil, but excess gasoline. That's why I suspected an injector might be leaking, but that wasn't the case.
I'll check the entire ignition system,
and thanks again. I'll let you know how it turns out.

It could be the sensor, the one that sends the signal indicating whether the car is cold or hot. That might be why it starts more easily once it's warmed up, since it doesn't require the extra fuel it needs when the engine is cold. We need to start eliminating possibilities, my friend. Good luck with your problem!

Thanks Sofi,
very good point. I'll check the temperature sensor.
What worries me even more is that the camshaft position sensor was out of position; the screw holding it was almost about to fall out, and the sensor was sticking out of its housing. Even worse, when I disconnected it, the engine kept running. I assumed that this sensor, along with the crankshaft position sensor, determines the spark for ignition. Shouldn't the engine shut off when it's disconnected?
