Good evening fellow forum members, my name is Reni. I have a 1998 Fiat Palio 1.7 diesel. I loosened the timing belt because it was very stretched and I felt a clunk. When I put it back on, the sprocket connected to the injection pump slipped about 5 teeth. I started it without problems, the only issue was a knocking sound that stopped after 2 kilometers and it ran normally. I drove another 75 kilometers and it suddenly shut off without any noise or anything. I've noticed that the injection pump isn't sending diesel fuel, and I replaced the entire shut-off solenoid that goes to the pump just in case. It shut off without any hesitation or anything; it's as if it ran out of fuel or something like that. I hope you can help me. Thank you in advance.

Did you check the timing belt?

Yes, I checked and everything is fine, nothing came loose or broke.

As your colleague huipi mentioned, you should "check the timing belt" or its alignment, as it's not normal to start the engine and hear a knocking sound. You said it skipped about 5 teeth on the water pump, but you didn't say if it also skipped on the crankshaft sprocket or camshaft; valves could have been bent if this happened. I hope you have luck, and definitely check the timing and turn it by hand before starting the engine. Regards.

Thanks for the advice. I wanted to let you know that only the sprocket connected to the pump turned; the rest didn't. Is it possible that I can drive 75 km without any problems and that the valves are bent? I'm asking because I'm completely inexperienced with this. Thanks.
