Peugeot Malto! Published by manual-mecanica
Hi everyone,

I have a 2002 Peugeot 206 1.4 HDI and yesterday, out of nowhere, the fuel gauge suddenly went from one bar over half full to almost empty. So, I took it to the mechanic because I thought it was the fuel level sensor, but the sensor was fine, since the needle rises to the first bar when you turn the ignition on, and it seemed to be working correctly. The mechanic, now suspicious, noticed that when he disconnected the sensor's connector, the needle didn't go down:-S . He shorted the connector to see if the needle would rise, but it didn't. So, you can probably guess my question... What could be wrong with the poor car?

If the clock doesn't react when you excite it, then that's the problem, but be careful, if you have a BCI then you should check it.

Hi Kike,

First of all, thank you so much for replying. We also removed the analog clock from the instrument cluster and reset it, and the odometer is working fine. It has a BCI (Built-in Control Module), and we've checked it and everything is OK. What could be the problem?

Is the tank damaged? Or perhaps you have a pump that's too short and can't draw all the fuel, like what happens with DOHC rams when they install aftermarket pumps.

I've had the car since 2007 and it's never had any problems, apart from oil changes, filters, and regular maintenance... nothing at all. The gauge has always been fine... and today, looking online, it might be the ECU, although like I said, I have no idea... thanks for replying.
