To check for spark, disconnect a spark plug wire and touch it to any part of the engine. You can do this with all six cylinders. It would also be good to measure the voltage to ground. With a multimeter, measure from the negative terminal of the battery to any part of the chassis. This reading shouldn't exceed 30mV. If it's higher, the vehicle has a poor ground connection.
