Almera 2003 query. Posted by manual-mecanica
I have a 2004 Almera Convenient. The check engine light (or the little yellow engine light on the dashboard) came on as soon as it did. After that, the car didn't accelerate like it used to. I had it scanned, and when they cleared the error code, the car ran fine, but when I turned it off and on again, the light came back on immediately. And it still doesn't accelerate properly; it won't go faster than 100 km/h. Yesterday morning, I started it, and the car was running slowly but fine. When I got on a highway, the car started jerking. The accelerator wasn't responding, but I could hear it revving up for a second and then stopping, even when I pressed the accelerator all the way down. Can anyone help?.

Sure, but it would be helpful if you could tell us what fault code the scanner is showing so we can help you.

Manual-mechanics response on the topic Re: Almera 2003 query
All I know is that the equipment used to scan it was an Injectronic, and the information the person who scanned it gave me was that there was a fault in the oxygen and temperature sensors, so they were cleaned or serviced and the error disappeared, showing zero detected, but when the car was turned off and on again the light came back on.

With the limited information you've provided, I assume it's a diesel engine, and this malfunction typically occurs when there are problems with the mass airflow sensor (MAF) or the EGR valve. It's not a hard and fast rule, but it's the most common cause. First, I would check the condition of the MAF sensor. It's a very delicate component because it operates using a very fine filament, so you must proceed with extreme care during disassembly, cleaning (though not recommended), and reassembly. If you haven't already, change the air filter, as it affects the lifespan and proper functioning of the MAF sensor. The other thing to check is the EGR valve, which also tends to get very dirty due to its function of recirculating exhaust gases into the intake. The procedure is almost the same: disassemble and clean it. There are also EGR valve cleaning sprays available, although I doubt their effectiveness.

I apologize for the limited information I have, but I'm not very familiar with this topic. The car is gasoline-powered, and from what I've been told, it no longer uses an EGR valve. The injectors have already been cleaned, but the problem persists. Someone suggested it might be an electrical issue, something I could bypass (they didn't specify exactly), but this would prevent the engine error code from appearing and stop the car from running sluggishly
