1992 COROLLA ENGINE OVERHEATING Published by manual-mecanica
Friends, I have the following question and I'm hoping you can help. I've been having engine overheating problems with my 1992 Corolla. When the car is running without the air conditioning on, the temperature gauge rises to the maximum and the cooling fan doesn't activate. When the air conditioning is on, it works normally, with both cooling fans running and the engine fan locking at both speeds. I've already checked the fuses and relays, and everything seems to be in perfect condition. Now, I'm wondering if it could be the temperature sensor, or perhaps a loose connection causing the problem. I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance.

Hi, based on the symptoms and what you've explained in this forum, the overheating problem in your car is related to the cooling fan temperature sensor. It's almost always located near the coolant return hose to the radiator, close to the thermostat (try this: if you find it, disconnect it and the fan motor should work).

Yes, my friend, I already tried that test with the air conditioning off. I disconnected the connection to the temperature valve and the cooling fan turned on. I reconnected it and it turned off, but it still has the problem of not automatically activating based on temperature. Unlike when the air conditioning is on, it shifts normally and doesn't overheat. Thanks for your quick response.

Hi friend, do the following... You said you disconnected the sensor that activates the electric fans and they turned on... then it's simple... replace that sensor since it's not sending the correct temperature signal to the fans... this sensor is also called a thermoswitch. I'm sure you'll get rid of this sensor and your problem will be solved... and for safety, also replace the bypass valve called the thermostat... I await your response so I know how it went... it was a pleasure to help you... Regards,
Jorge.
