2002 Trailblazer crankshaft grinding. Posted by manual-mecanica
Dear friends of this forum, my best wishes for the start of the new year.
I'm wondering how long my crankshaft will last if it was ground to 10 mm for main bearings. I'm asking because someone suggested I sell this truck, but I'd really like to keep it. What do you think?

I understand that its diameter has been reduced by a tenth of a millimeter, it's not a bad thing at all, the lifespan will depend on the distance traveled, as is logical, how many kilometers your truck has.

But did they grind the crankshaft or the main bearings?

If they ground the crankshaft, I suggest you sell the truck.

If they ground the main bearings to 1.0 mm (the final size), you have to understand that if you need another rebuild, that block won't be any good, unless grinding isn't necessary.

Honestly, if I were in your situation, regardless of how attached I am to the truck, I have to be realistic and objective. Any engine ground to the final commercial size is an engine with a limited lifespan. Therefore, if you can say, "If it fails again, I'll replace the engine," keep it. But if, on the contrary, you're already desperate because of the expenses you'll incur, sell it.

Of course, if the engine block was resurfaced by a tenth of a millimeter, there's plenty of engine left...

But if the crankshaft has been ground, there is no longer any certainty that it will not have problems in the near future; by grinding the surface of the crankshaft, it loses important characteristics

Good day: I bought this truck with 170,000 km, now it shows 187,000 km. I took the opportunity to install new piston rings; only the crankshaft was ground to -0.10 of main bearing diameter
