Neutralized gearbox. Published by manual-mechanics
Friends, anyone who can help me, THANK YOU in advance!

I have a Hyundai Elantra 1.6 whose oil pump stopped working and the engine seized, with the 4th cylinder bearing seizing. After having the crankshaft ground and other repairs done, when I started the engine, I found that the transmission won't engage. It's worth noting that it's an automatic transmission.

I would appreciate any help because I really don't know what to do anymore!

It could be that the friction discs are slipping because they are burned out, or that the torque converter shaft that connects to the gearbox has very worn splines that prevent it from transferring the movement to the gearbox. I hope this helps.

Thanks, brother. It's hard to believe that, since the gearbox was working perfectly. Then the engine seized, and after reassembly, we have this problem. No work was done on the gearbox because it wasn't necessary.

What repair did you do to the oil pump? Does it have solenoid valves?
Have you checked the gearbox? Because if the pump stopped generating the necessary flow for its operation, the inside of the gearbox may also be damaged.

What usually happens is that the torque converter gets stuck on the crankshaft, and when the engine is disconnected from the transmission, the torque converter also disengages. That's what I think happened to your car. The bad news is that they'll have to remove the engine to properly re-engage the torque converter. A quick test is to check the transmission fluid level with the dipstick before starting the engine. If the level is the same after starting, the torque converter isn't engaged.
