Adapting a 4G54 engine to a 1999 Montero. Published by manual-mecanica
I have a 1985 Montero with a 4G54 engine and a badly damaged body. I bought a body from a 1999 Montero, and I'd like to adapt the engine to the body. I'd like to know if anyone has done this before, any problems they encountered, and any suggestions. Thanks

I've adapted several engines, not that specific one, but if you have rear-wheel drive, you won't have a problem adapting the driveshaft. Just be careful, you'll have to adapt the engine mounts. It's not complicated, but make sure that when adapting the engine, you can easily remove the oil filter and starter motor to avoid future problems. Another thing to consider is the oil pan; if the concave shape is too large, it shouldn't hit anything. If it does, you'll have to adapt it by cutting and turning it around. Good luck.

Yes, both are rear-wheel drive. Now, looking at the transmission housing bolts, they're different from the engine bolts, but I was told that a piece can be made between the engine and the transmission. The mounting brackets don't worry me because they're welded in the correct position when the engine goes into the transmission. Well, today I'm going to a machine shop to see what they say about the part. I also have the plate that came with the 4M40 engine, and that's what I'm going to use to make the part. Thanks
