Problem with Stratus. Posted by manual-mecanica
Good day everyone, my problem is with a 2002 Stratus with a 2.4 engine. The engine idles roughly and sometimes stalls. I've already checked the IAC valve and TPS, and they're fine, but I don't have the MAP sensor readings. With the ignition on and the switch off, it reads 3.7V, and with the engine running, it reads 3.4V at idle, but it fluctuates a lot. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. The idle speed fluctuates between 500 and 1000 RPM. Thanks

Check the fuel pressure; the problem might be there. Since it's a multi-point injection system, the pressure might drop. But you can only see the MAP sensor reading with an oscilloscope, and the waveform should vary slightly without abrupt cutoffs (both at low and high speeds, but under load, with the car moving, not stopped). If there are abrupt cutoffs, that's the problem. But check the fuel pressure anyway because the fault could also be due to the fuel pressure regulator valve (located near the fuel rail) or the fuel pressure regulator valve. Even the fuel filter could be clogged. Okay. It's not all about using a multimeter; you should also use an oscilloscope, vacuum gauge, pressure gauge, compression tester, and other tools.

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: Problem with Stratus
Hi, I once had a problem with a 2.5 Cirrus, and the problem was the last thing I expected. It turned out that the catalytic converters had been removed from this car, and all the carbon dioxide, like soot, reached the oxygen sensors. What I did was remove them, clean them well, wash them with carburetor cleaner, and reinstall them. It improved, but the problem wasn't fixed. You have to change the oxygen sensor. Check if the catalytic converters were removed, or if the 2.4 had its catalytic converter removed, then check the oxygen sensor...!!!

If the problem is due to RPM fluctuations, you have a lot to check. The temperature sensor is also very influential at this point, and any vacuum or false air intake can affect you in the same way, even a bad purge of the refrigeration system.
