Spark gearbox oil change. Posted by manual-mecanica
Hello. I have a 2005 Chevrolet Spark. For the past few weeks, I've had to use a lot of pressure to get it into reverse, and very rarely into any other gear. I've been told it probably needs maintenance on the transmission, which involves changing the oil. Is this a serious problem? What should I do? Thank you.

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: Spark gearbox oil change
It's not as serious as it seems, but the transmission fluid level isn't really the issue. If it were, all the gears would be difficult to shift, not just reverse. It's probably too soon to say your transmission is bad or damaged, but it's not impossible. I recommend draining the fluid and checking for metal particles. The transmission drain plug is magnetized, so it should be easy to see if there's any metal present. I have a Yaris, and reverse has always been difficult; I don't know if the Spark has the same problem.
