SYMPTOMS: RUNNY IDLE, LOSS
OF POWER
, ENGINE SHAKES AT IDLE.

PROBLEM: COIL.

SOLUTION: COIL REPLACEMENT

. HOW TO DIAGNOSE: To find out which of the four coils is bad and replace it, perform the following test: With the engine running, disconnect coil number 1 (the first one counting from the transmission towards the distributor). Disconnect the plug. If the engine stops, it is in good condition. Then move on to the next coil. If you disconnect one and the vehicle does not stop, that is the problem. These coils are usually replaced in pairs, but if you don't want to do that and only want to replace one, you must find the two coils that, when disconnected while the car is running, do not cause the vehicle to stop. Remove one of these and put it in the place of the ones that caused the vehicle to stop, and do the test again. The vehicle should not stop when disconnected. Stop, replace, and that's it.

Hello, good day. Regarding the issue with the ignition coils in the K4M, the easiest way to detect it is by disconnecting the injectors one at a time. The ones with a good coil will misfire, but the one with a shorted coil won't. To check if it really is the coil, you swap it with the one that supposedly is failing and test it. That is, if we think coil 1 is failing, we swap it with coil 2, and then the misfire will have shifted to cylinder 2.

Hello, let me tell you that the best test would be the injectors, because the K4M engine uses coils connected in series.
Sometimes, a fault in one coil transmits the problem to the others, even if they are in good condition, due to their connection. Coil number one is connected in series with number four
, and coil number two works in conjunction with number three.
If one of them has an open circuit, it's certain that its counterpart will also fail, and it's not necessarily the coil that's damaged.
Another observation: the coils in the K4M engine are very delicate, and disconnecting and reconnecting them can sometimes damage them.
Another solution we have is a scanner; it can tell you which cylinder is misfiring.
I hope this information helps you with a good and accurate diagnosis. Bye, take care.

The ignition coils used in the K4M engine can also be removed one by one with the engine running. Using one coil and a wire, ground it with the other end of the wire, passing it near the coil through the connector and around the coil. If you see and hear a spark, it means the coil is leaking and about to fail. This causes instability at idle. Note: Do not remove the coil from the connector to test if it works; you must remove it completely with the connector still plugged in and then perform the test.
