Chek Engine

Friends, my 1997 Hyundai Elantra has a "check engine" light on and the car won't start. After several attempts, it starts but the "check engine" light stays on. If I turn the car off and then back on, it works fine without the "check engine" light on. I'm wondering if it's because of the change of ownership, haha. Any help in trying to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The best thing you can do is a scan, it could be many things but I have a feeling it's related to the immobilizer.
