Front tire problem. Posted by manual-mecanica
I'm asking for your opinion on diagnosing my car, a Nissan Platina (Clio, Thalia, etc.).
The problem I'm having is the following:
I have a problem with the front wheel. The symptoms are:
- A muffled noise (a bit deep) while driving, as if something is rubbing (I've already checked the wheel and it's not rubbing against anything). It's not a metallic noise.
- When turning to the right, the wheel tends to wobble, as if it's not completely vertical (the rim and tire are in perfect condition). However, it behaves almost perfectly in a straight line, but not at high speeds.
- The steering tends to pull slightly to the right.
- And when accelerating and decelerating, there's a slight clicking sound, as if something is lagging behind when moving forward (I haven't checked the lower engine mount yet).

I haven't been able to figure out what it is, and due to lack of time, I haven't been able to disassemble it to check.
What could it be?

. Thank you in advance.B)

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: Front tire problem
Look, a quick way is to lift the wheel and check its axial and longitudinal play. This is done by moving the tire from its two lateral ends (viewed from the front) and from the two remaining points (top and bottom). There should be no movement. Now, based on what you've said, I'm ruling out everything you mentioned and sticking with the wheel bearing. From what you've described and the symptoms you've given, worn wheel bearings make a dry whining noise, like "boooooooo," cause erratic wheel rotation, and when braking suddenly or accelerating, there's a clunking sound between the hub and the axle.

I also think it's the wheel bearing. To see if it's the constant velocity joint, you can try making a tight turn at speed. That is, put the car in drive and then turn it all the way to the right or left (you must turn it all the way around quickly). If it's the joint, you'll hear a particular sound that only occurs when you make turns. I hope this helps.
