Good day.
I have a 1997 Ford F-150 automatic pickup truck, and yesterday I braked suddenly. After that, the ABS light came on on the dashboard. I put it in park, and then it wouldn't let me shift gears; they were stuck. After many attempts, I turned off the engine, turned the ignition switch to the "on" position, and then it let me shift gears. I put it in neutral and turned it back on, and I was able to drive it.
But the truck feels like it's being held back... and the ABS light is still on.

If I start it and try to shift gears, it won't let me. I have to turn it off, turn the ignition switch to the "on" position, put it in neutral, start it again, and then put it in drive (D) for it to move.

What should I do? Could it be that it's stuck in the "on" position? Is the engine going into protection mode because the ABS light is on, and that's why it won't let me shift gears? Or could it be the transmission?

Thank you for your help

Manual-mechanics response on the topic : Re: ABS light came on and the transmission locked up
Look, to be honest, I don't know much about this, I don't work on automatic transmissions, but I think that when the brakes are applied, the gears don't engage for safety reasons. I'm not entirely sure, but I heard that somewhere. Anyway, automatic transmissions and ABS brakes are complicated to fix yourself. Take it to a shop and tell them about the brakes. Don't mention the transmission, just the brakes, so they don't charge you so much.
