What is clear is that it is a solenoid valve in the gearbox's hydraulic circuit, to open or close the oil passage and activate or deactivate a component. What I can't tell you is which part it acts on, whether it's the retarder, the torque converter... you would have to say where it is mounted or look for the parts diagram of this gearbox and locate the solenoid valve.
