In the HDI, the pump is supposed to only pressurize the common rail. Some engines have a pump position sensor. In this case, you might not need to maintain the position, but I advise you to use a locking hole in the pulley if it has one, instead of marking the pulley (I think it was an M8 bolt acting as a pin between the pulley and a slot in the block).
