Toyota Prado 2007 5L-E engine failure. Posted by manual-mecanica
Good afternoon everyone, my question is as follows. I have a 2007 Prado with a 5L-E engine. After changing the oil, air, and fuel filters, several kilometers after leaving the service center, it started having a problem. At 1500 RPM, it hesitates, emits white smoke, and if I accelerate, it won't go above 2500-3000 RPM. The check engine light doesn't come on. I've already checked the fuel lines and tank vents, and even tried adding diesel directly to the injection pump, bypassing the filter, in case that was the issue, but it's still the same. If anyone has experienced this problem and can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

I think the problem is the injection pump, have it tested

Try bleeding the injectors, and check the white smoke to see if it's unburned diesel or burnt oil...it's possible they added too much oil and that's the problem. Check the oil level. It's not normal that everything was working fine before the changes and now the pump timing is off or the pump itself is broken. Good luck!

The problem you might have is twofold. You'd have to tell me what model of pump it has, because if it's a DPCN, it has an advance solenoid valve that could be causing the problem. If it's a Bosch VE, it might be lacking transfer pressure, so the advance wouldn't be complete and it would be out of time during acceleration. Don't try to advance the pump yourself, because if you do, the engine will be running at full advance all the time and it will be very noisy. Check what pump it has and I can tell you what you can do. Oh, and lastly, you should check the EGR valve to make sure it's not malfunctioning. Regards.

Hi, well, my opinion would be this. You say this happened after leaving the lube shop, so I would advise you to ask what type of oil they put in, since these modern vehicles have problems from using oils not recommended by the manufacturer (this is due to the white smoke). Regarding the skipping, check the fuel filter to see if it's the one specified.
