Renault Clio dashboard failure. Posted by manual-mecanica
Dear Sir/Madam,

I have a 2005 Renault Clio 1.6. It has the following problem:
The dashboard gauges (engine temperature, RPM, speedometer, fuel level, and lights) are not working or are working intermittently. They only start working again when the engine is held above 2000 RPM. The engine also feels like it's misfiring, as if it's due to a coil issue.
I have checked
the alternator, the battery is new, the fuses are good, the connections appear fine, I tested the instrument cluster and it came back clean, and I scanned it and everything is OK. I've researched this and learned that the fuse that powers the instrument cluster is also the one that powers the brake lights, and these lights are also malfunctioning; only the third brake light is working.

Any ideas?

Manual-mechanics response regarding Renault Clio dashboard failure
You won't have battery problems like the Peugeot does, will you? Maybe that's all it is. If not, try balancing the engine. If it's a K4M, check the grounds; I think that's the issue.

Manual-mechanics response regarding Renault Clio dashboard failure
Hi kikemec. The battery is new and the voltage is stable. Checking the workshop manual, I performed the instrument cluster power and ground tests. They remain constant. According to the manufacturer's manual, if these are OK, the instrument cluster should be replaced. Someone told me it's a multiplexed system and the cluster needs to be reprogrammed.

Regards
