Electrical fault in the lighting system. Posted by manual-mecanica
Hey everyone, good day. A few days ago, while driving my 1984 Nissan Sentra automatic, I hit a pothole and all my lights went out—the side and rear turn signals, as well as the headlights. I was completely without lights; only one bulb remained lit. I didn't notice until the next day, mainly because it wasn't very dark yet. Initially, I thought it was a fuse, but at least the interior fuses are all working. Perhaps hitting the pothole was a coincidence, but I'd really appreciate your help. I don't have the fuse box cover, so a picture of one showing the function of each fuse and relay would be very helpful. Secondly, if you could help me figure this out, perhaps a wiring diagram would be a great help. Let me know if you have any questions. Best of luck, everyone!

Manual-mechanical response on the topic of electrical failure of the lighting system
Hey friend, that's what the multimeter is for. You have to check the wiring and the voltage reaching the lights. If not, then we'll check the relays or fuses. It's just a matter of looking; you don't need the manual, especially since the car is so old, they hardly have any electrical components.

If it was caused by the pothole, then it could be a short circuit or something came loose. Check the electrical system manually; it could even be that the remote control came loose with the impact and it's just a matter of putting the plug back in its place and nothing more.

Thanks to both of you for replying. Regarding what you mentioned about the multimeter, I can tell you that it's not getting any power. So, as for the relays, I don't know how to check them to see if they're open or not. And I don't know exactly where to find the remote control, so I would greatly appreciate your guidance. Regards.

The remote control is the switch behind the steering wheel where you turn on the lights, where you turn the dial to switch between low and high beams. Maybe it just got unplugged. Check that first; it's unlikely that all the relays would fail.
