MITSUBISHI DIESEL MOTOR PUBLISHED BY MANUAL-MECANICA
Good morning to all. I need to please help me with this, since it can imply a lot of money and I am not very sure about it. I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Montera Wagon, the traditional but long 5 -door, with a gasoline V6 3000 engine, had gas, but we already know about the loss of power, without counting on the space of the pipettes that the entire trunk takes. In short, the issue is that it began to smoke a lot, blue and the truth would not want to repair that engine, since without a doubt it will be very expensive in addition to the fact that on the one hand the consumption of gasoline is high and and on the other, with gas I do not like it anymore. I have been considering changing the engine for a diesel, I have studied the subject and I have met the 4M40T of 2800 cc, which recommend me? I read versions found bad and good, what do you think? Does that engine fit the car well or do you have to do a lot of adaptation work? Is there another better engine? I listen to !!!! (or read? Haha) I leave the photo.

Manual-mechanical response on the topic of MITSUBISHI DIESEL ENGINE
Hi NandoMed,
the blue smoke indicates worn or broken piston rings, and possibly worn valve guides. The repair cost depends on the mechanic. Some mechanics take an engine and immediately schedule parts reconditioning to ensure success, relying on their expertise to avoid risks. In this case, consider piston rings, connecting rod bearings, main bearings, thrust bearings, a complete gasket set, and possibly some ball bearings. You'll need to measure the cylinders. If wear and/or ovality are within acceptable limits, they can be left as is. Measure the connecting rod and main bearing journals to ensure they are within tolerance, as well as the valve guides. These reconditioning operations are the most expensive part of a repair, as these engines are typically made of high-quality, wear-resistant material. Also, when switching to a diesel engine, you should consider the transmission, as these engines are slower and won't provide the same operating speed as your current transmission.
I hope this comment has been helpful. Good luck.
Miguel

Manual-mechanical response on the topic of MITSUBISHI DIESEL ENGINE
Thank you very much, Miguel. Your comment is spot on. It's true, when you take apart an engine like this, you're faced with a very long list of expenses, since you can find parts that are only half-life and you just can't leave them like that with the engine already in the ground. Regarding the transmission, it's true, you have to install the engine with the factory transmission. In that regard, could you give me your opinion on this engine or another Mitsubishi diesel that would be a good fit for the car? Thank you very much.
