Problem with a 2001 Mazda Tribute. Posted by manual-mecanica
Hello,

good afternoon. I have a problem with my 2001 Mazda Tribute. It has a jerking motion when the engine is cold, but it stops jerking once it warms up. I've already cleaned the injectors, the throttle body and IAC valve are clean, and I have power at all the ignition coils. I scanned it and no fault codes appeared. I don't know what else to do. I would greatly appreciate your help.

A jerking sound is like a pulling or jerking; listen to see if the exhaust flow is even. If it isn't, then you may have a problem with either the spark plug wires or the spark plugs themselves.

I forgot to mention something: if the jerking is always within a certain speed range, it could be a problem with the TPS, but you can check it with an analog tester. When you measure it, it shouldn't fluctuate; it should rise steadily.

Thanks for your comment, kikimec.

I forgot to mention that the problem is that it jerks only when it's cold, when I'm driving the truck. At normal idle or low speeds, the truck has a problem; the RPMs fluctuate a lot, and sometimes it stalls. To prevent this from happening, I have to accelerate the truck. I've already checked for air leaks and cleaned the injectors. Honestly, this problem is driving me crazy. I've been thinking it might be a coil pack, but I checked all four, and none of them seem to be the problem. I appreciate all your comments; they're helpful to me.

It could be jerking then because the idle is very low, the spark is good in all the coils, it jumps well and is blue, the jump should easily be 2 centimeters, the spark plugs when you take them out come out very black, enough to blame the oxygen sensor or the temperature sensor.
