If there are drops of gasoline, it's because there's a leak. They need to check the hoses from the tank and those that run to the engine, all the way to the filler neck. The technician who checked that didn't notice a tiny leak. Sometimes the smell is caused by the fuel cap gasket where the fuel pump is located. It gets damaged or shifts, and when you drive the car, gasoline spills out. This cap is under the back seat. Inspecting it is relatively easy; you just need to lift the back seat and see if there's any moisture around the cap. If there is, take it to a technician to fix the problem, as it requires experience.
Regarding the three-cylinder engine running and the black smoke you mentioned, it's likely that an injector is stuck open, flooding the cylinder and causing it to stop working. That's also why there's black smoke. I think you must also be feeling a loss of power in the vehicle, right? I hope this helps.
