Beeping noise at idle. Posted by manual-mecanica
First of all, hello everyone and thank you so much!

A few weeks ago, I had an accident with my car because a dog ran in front of me on the highway. I took my Ford Fiesta to an authorized dealership, and now that I have it back, there's a strange noise coming from the right side of the engine (when viewed from inside the car). It's a whine when I'm not accelerating, and it goes away when I start accelerating. It's like a squeak...

I took it back to the dealership today, and I get the feeling they're trying to wash their hands of it, both them and my insurance company.
The mechanic said they'll call an adjuster, but they don't think it will be covered because they don't think it was caused by the accident. But I've never heard this before:( .

My car has 60,000 kilometers on it, and he says, just by looking at it, that he thinks it might be the water pump, which would cost around 600 euros because he also has to replace the timing belt. It all sounds like gibberish to me because I thought that if the water pump was bad, the logical thing would be for the car to overheat and lose water, but my car isn't doing any of that.
It runs as usual, except for a whistling sound at idle.

I've got all the parts they gave me for the car when they fixed it, so I'd like to know if you can tell me if it could be related to the accident or something else.

Apparently, the dog was quite large, hahaha. Of everything you mentioned, nothing can produce a squeal. Now, dealing with noises is a bit complicated on the forum, since what sounds like a squeal to you might sound like a purr to us. But if it goes away when you accelerate, it could be something as simple as the tension of the timing belt. It could also be the water pump if your engine is a 1.6 Rocam, as that's a common problem. Another possibility is the power steering pump, but the water pump makes a deeper, more throaty noise than a squeal, while the power steering pump definitely does.

Thank you so much for replying. The dog was huge!!! What a fright... : Woohoo:

The beeping sound is similar to this

*Although not as sharp, and it disappears completely when accelerating

My car is a Ford Fiesta Trend 1.4 TDCI.

I don't understand anything about mechanics, but it seems strange to me that it's the water pump, and it also seems odd that the knocking has nothing to do with this problem. : Angry:
Isn't that too much of a coincidence?

Hi Sasanita.
I agree with Kikemec that it could be belt tension. To be sure, when it's making the noise, pour a little water on the belt near the pulleys. If the noise stops, it's the tension. Good luck.

Hi, it does sound like a tension issue, but displacement of components can also play a role. The alternator or power steering pump bracket might have warped, or even a pulley. In any case, with a collision like that, they should check that everything is working properly before handing it over. If it's making that noise and they've already delivered it, it's as if they didn't finish the job. It's illogical. Give them a hard time; all the work they've done is a significant profit, so they shouldn't do it properly. Good luck, and I hope this helps
