I would not have moved the draft of the distribution, with that what you did was to advance or delay the opening and closure of the valves, which can affect the engine performance according to what regime of revolutions is. If the coup modified something in the crankshaft sensor you must repair that and with the correct distribution draft in its brands check if it works well. If this car has the distributor, there you can delay or advance the ignition. The ideal would be for you to have the manual because there are engines that already have an initial advance in idle. In any case it would be preferable that you left a backward tad before advanced, when you leave it advanced more pressure in the explosion chamber and you will notice how the temperature tends to be higher. Detonations can also be produced more easily.
