I have a 2002 Daewoo Matiz. The problem started with an apparent fuel injection failure, along with the service light coming on until it went off and wouldn't come back on. After it went off, I tried turning the ignition switch on and noticed the fuel system relay making a clicking sound while the switch was on. Another odd thing is that with the switch on, the service engine light doesn't come on, and the same clicking sound is heard coming from the fuel pump. Because of this, I decided to replace the fuel system relay, but the problem persisted. Then I removed the fuel pump and replaced the fuel pump assembly, but the problem continued. Next, I started bypassing the current at the relay contacts, and the pump primed perfectly when I turned the key. Sometimes it would even start, but... whenever I accelerate, the service light comes on again, and the fuel flow becomes erratic until it stalls. I've been told it's a bad ground connection, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. The main safety issue is that when I push it, or in other words, accelerate, it malfunctions and shuts off... I would be forever grateful to anyone who can help me with this, thank you very much in advance.

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: Fuel pump relay clicks but the engine won't start
Take it to an electrician because that's the problem. I've worked on that car here in Venezuela, and it's an electrical issue, especially with the negative signal not reaching the distributor. They need to check the fuse box, but explaining it will be complicated.

Hello, it's a pleasure to greet you all. I want to make my contribution for the gentleman with the Daewoo Matiz... simply change the relay, be careful that it is identical to the previous one...

Okay friend, here's some information. It turns out that fuel injection problems are very related; that is, electrical and fuel injection problems are similar. Therefore, you should initially measure the fuel pump pressure, which should be around 35 psi. Then, check that the alternator is generating the necessary current, since the engine becomes more demanding as you accelerate. Also, check the ground connection, because if it's interrupted, the computer can't properly process the information sent by the sensors.

Let me know what else you can check (like spark plugs, ignition wires, etc.).

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: Fuel pump relay clicks but the engine won't start
Friends of the community, it turns out that since I started this thread, I feel obligated to explain the solution I found for the problem I was having. After changing the fuel pump and the fuel system relay, I asked for a second opinion and was told to check the distributor and spark plug wires. Visually, everything looked fine, but the carbon and contacts on the distributor cap were burned and very worn. So I bought a new cap and rotor and solved my problem... with a bit of luck, but I fixed the issue.
