Turbo Whistle Published by manual-mecanica
I have a Seat Altea 1.9 TDI with 105 hp. A couple of months ago, I changed the turbo at 50,000 km because it was making a really loud, ambulance-like whistling sound. The dealership told me to change it, but it's still making the noise. It's not as loud anymore; it's very subtle. You can notice it when accelerating in second gear after the revs have dropped, in urban areas and on the highway at a constant speed of around 100-120 km/h. It's a continuous whistling sound.

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: Turbo whistling
Hello, good morning. Actually, it's normal for a turbocharger to emit a soft, continuous whistling sound, especially when shifting gears or even when the engine is under load. Another thing you could check is the exhaust system; the exhaust pipe or even the muffler itself might be broken, causing that loud whistling sound. Also, make sure all the engine cylinders are working; there could be a cylinder that isn't firing, which could also cause that ambulance-like whistling sound. Well, my friend, I hope this helps you troubleshoot your problem and rule things out.

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: Turbo whistling
I passed the MOT a couple of weeks ago and everything was fine, it's probably normal turbo noise, a soft and continuous whistling sound. The car doesn't lose power now or before when I boosted the turbo and it whistled like an ambulance.

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: Turbo whistling
Hi;

something similar is happening to me, there's a whistling sound, but a bit louder, in the car.

What could it be?
