Help with Cheyenne pickup differential

Hello everyone on the forum, we have a problem with a 1997 Cheyenne pickup truck. It's leaking oil from the differential, specifically from the area around the large ball joint. I'm not sure if there's a seal there, but that could be the reason for the leak. How can I fix this? It seems complicated. What do I need to do? Could someone please advise me? Thanks in advance.

Hi, well, that has a seal or retainer that tends to break, especially if you drive through areas with lots of weeds, particularly those with fibrous stems.
It's easy to repair if you have some basic knowledge (amateur level for that). Briefly: loosen the plate where the U-joint is located; there are usually about four bolts. Then there's a nut behind that plate; loosen it, and behind it is the seal.
They usually come out with a screwdriver by prying them off, and you have to be careful not to pry off the part number engraved on the seal so you can buy a replacement, reassemble in reverse, and refill with oil or replace it. Good luck!
