How to install an engine temperature gauge. Published by manual-mecanica
I want to install a speedometer in a 2007 Opel Zafira, which didn't come with one from the factory. It only has an emergency warning light. I'm worried that the car's onboard computer will malfunction when I work on it.
Has anyone installed one and can advise me on the steps to follow?

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: How to install an engine temperature gauge
It's not complicated; there are two versions, one electrical and one mechanical. They're just different names, don't worry. You need to find a place on the engine where you can make a connection to the water circuit to install it. It should be in contact with the water, ideally before the thermostat, for an accurate reading. The electrical instructions are printed inside the boxes of these components, so it's nothing out of the ordinary. You won't damage your vehicle's computer as long as the installation is completely independent of the original system; you won't have any problems.

First, thanks for replying, Kikemec. Then, where I bought the meter, they told me it goes on the engine block, on one of its bolts. And as I mentioned before, I don't know which voltage cables to use that won't damage the ECU. And I don't understand what you mean by "the installation being completely independent of the original installation.".

If they told you there's a screw in the block, remove it, check that you actually have water, and then put the gauge there. Regarding the voltage wires you mentioned, it will depend on the voltage of the gauge you bought. If it's 12 volts, it's best to run one wire directly from the battery, or failing that, from an ignition switch so it shuts off immediately when you remove the key. The other wire is just a ground; you can connect it to the chassis, which is recommended. The independent installation means you run your own wires and don't tap into the vehicle's existing wires. In any case, as long as you don't tap into any sensors, you won't have any problems.
