Ford Escort 1.8 TD Cold Start by Manual-Mecanica
Hello everyone. I wanted to make a consultation on the cold start of a Ford Escort 1.8 TD of the year 98. It starts badly and when it does it quite smoke by the escape. The battery is new, like the heaters, the fuel filter changed. They have told me that all these engines, both escort, parties and mondeo of this era start badly cold, but they don't tell me why, if you take air through some site, etc. Hot starts to the touch. All the best

Manual-Mecanica Response on the Re: cold starting escort 1.8 TD
Hi how are things. Look at the motor temperature sensor, if you can see it with a scanner, or take the resistance between the pins. At 20ºC the resistance must be between 35,000 to 40000 OHMS. Another one that can be is the caudalimetro, notice that the electrodes are clean. I hope it helps you.

Hello friend, in effect those engines are very morning to start in cold, in any case, check the heating switchboard well that usually fail and delay the heating of the spark plugs with which the light of the board is turned off but I still do not finish heating the spark plugs, when the light goes out and listen until you feel the click of the relay when you cut and there you turn it on, you say it, it comes to you. :)

Thanks for the answers. I tell you about what you have told me. The temperature sensor is fine because I have checked and gives those resistance values. The caudalimetro is the only thing that I would have to check. The only trick that I have is, before starting, heating about 3 times, waiting for the relay relay to be heard, and so it starts well, although it is quite cold with those 3 times that I do it does not just start completely well, so I do not know if I will be right, I have the impression that it is fuel food, as if when it is a long time stopped, it would take a long time. Thanks for the help

Hello, these engines have a wear defect that when it has a use, the injector pump does not retain gas-oil after a stopped time, then it joins that the engine is cold and also has to be primed again based on giving the start. It is also communicating that when you are in reservation of the deposit in certain curves, the engine paste pulls, that is that the pump is descended because it takes very little air but has an impact on the operation. For you to see an example of how sensitive these pumps are turned with with the kilometers and use. The solution that I recommend the an antiretive valve at the entrance of the injection pump.
