You should scan the truck, and it should give you the fault code and description. You can also check if they've installed a kill switch or engine immobilizer in the alarm, ignition switch, or fuses. On that model, look for the OBDII connector on the dashboard below the steering wheel. With the ignition on, bridge pins 5 and 6 of that connector, and the check engine light will start flashing.
