Could someone please tell me if it's normal for the alternator pulley to have some play from front to back, or if it has some kind of clutch system? I would greatly appreciate any information. Best regards to all, and thank you very much

My Megane doesn't have it. In fact, I had a problem with that looseness; the accessory belt, as it wore down, caught a piece of it on the timing belt, causing it to skip a tooth because of the play in the pulley. Anyway, Renault fixed that problem, and maybe that's why the pulley is designed that way.

Alternator pulleys have a kind of clutch (clockwise it drives the shaft and counterclockwise it rotates on its own. If it doesn't do this, it's faulty; it's a common problem).

There is no play in alternators; the pulleys are fixed. If there is play, the bearing or the internal bushings may be faulty. At least I have never seen an alternator with play. I'm not saying they don't exist, but I don't think it's normal, since it misaligns the belt and can cause it to misalign.

These alternators come with either a fixed pulley or a free-spinning pulley, depending on the year of the car. If it has a free-spinning pulley, it functions like a bicycle sprocket, locking only to the right. This system prevents vibrations from the accessory belt.
