Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: Ford Econoline problems, help please
Yes, that's right. We also put in a Bardahl 2 and the oil pressure remained stable, but when I accelerate, it drops again. I'm afraid we've tried everything, so we'll have to replace the pump. What do you think in this situation?

So the problem is in that place, you should replace it and that's it. The oil pickup is fine, it hasn't been hit or anything, so it shouldn't be sucking oil from where it should. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well, because if it doesn't have anywhere to suck oil from, it won't do anything.

We already checked if the suction cup is working properly. Any other options?

Check the connecting rod bearings and, if possible, the main bearings. If they are too scored, that's where the pressure is escaping. Also, check that the lifters are working properly, because you have a problem with the oil circulation. Check the gear clearance on the pump as well; it might be out of range.

I'm of the opinion that you should change the pump because if it's not that, we're almost talking about an engine overhaul, due to the bearings and all that, but if I were you, I'd change the pump first; maybe that's the whole problem.
