Hello friends, I hope you're all doing well. I need help with my problem. My VW Golf had a "Nemesis" alarm installed a while ago, which also includes an immobilizer. A few days ago, the car locked itself and won't start because there's no spark. The ignition coil is good; it's just not delivering a spark due to the immobilizer. What should I do? I need to know how to disable the immobilizer, how to disconnect it, or something. Please help.

The best thing to do is take it back to where they installed the alarm; that way you'll save time and money

Normally, when an alarm is installed, the wire that is bypassed to prevent the car from starting on a gasoline engine is the ignition coil's power wire. Two wires should connect to this coil: one for power from the ignition switch and another that sends pulses from the distributor. Check that you have power at the positive terminal of the coil. Another reason is that these cars started to come with factory-installed immobilizers. Check that you haven't lost the key's magnet (dropped it). If this magnet is missing, the car won't start. Best regards.

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: Problems with the immobilizer of a 1998 Golf
Some Golf models typically include an immobilizer activated by a chip integrated into the key. This system is called a transponder, if I remember correctly. Some VW Gols also use this system. Under the steering wheel, on the back of the ignition panel, there's a large black box where you can see two connectors to a module and two thick wires that are part of the immobilizer. Essentially, the immobilizer acts as a switch for this wire, connecting or disconnecting it to start the engine. If your car doesn't have this system, it's very likely that the immobilizer is part of your aftermarket alarm system, and the problem is usually caused by a separate relay. This relay has, or should have, a fuse; perhaps the fuse is blown, or the relay itself is faulty. I hope this information is helpful.
