Renault twingo Published by manual-mecanica
Hi, I have a 2003 Twingo that's been having a problem, like not all the cylinders are firing. It's running weak and shaking. The mechanic says it could be the ignition coil or, in the worst case, the computer.

Could anyone give me their opinion?

A couple of weeks ago, they replaced the fuel injector and cleaned the injectors thinking that might be the problem... in fact, the problem went away for two weeks and then suddenly reappeared.

Thanks

If the engine is misfiring as if it were running on three cylinders, it could also be a spark plug misfire. To check this, start the car and disconnect each spark plug one by one. If the engine stalls when you disconnect one, restart it and try the next. If the engine doesn't stall and continues misfiring when you disconnect one, that cylinder isn't firing, so the problem could be the spark plug or the wire

Check if it's the distributor cap (if it has one) and the rotor, which might be misfiring. It's not consuming water. Otherwise, it could also be a leaking injector, or perhaps a hose, like the one for the brake booster, or a hose at the throttle body that's cracked or about to break

Okay, I already bought the coil to see if that's the problem... I'll let you know tomorrow... I just hope it's not the computer!

Don't worry, it's not the computer. If it's malfunctioning, there's no spark in any of the cylinders, or no injection in any of the injectors. The computer doesn't malfunction by cylinder, but rather the entire system. You should check which cylinder is misfiring to isolate the problem, and then see why it's happening—whether it's cutting the current or the spark, or if the piston rings are worn, etc. Check which one it is first.
