Hi Rafael. If your van has a Puma engine, you've hit the jackpot. Around that mileage, the fuel injection warning light usually comes on and it starts having trouble starting properly; it's the injectors. They can't be cleaned or repaired, which means a hefty sum. If one of them has leaked, it will have punctured the piston.
You have to remove the cylinder head and check if the damage is only to the piston. If the cylinder head isn't damaged, you replace the piston and the connecting rod bearings. If the piston rings don't have any apparent damage, leave the ones you have since they're already seated in the cylinder.
Do the math and get a price for a used engine from a salvage yard; it might be worth it.
Hope it's nothing serious, and good luck...

I imagine you already know by now that your problem is quite common, and even if it happened outside the two-year warranty period, the manufacturer might have been obligated to cover it. If you're still interested, let me know, because your engine didn't have a two-year warranty; Peugeot actually offered five years for that engine.

Peugeot engines, especially the 1.8, were known for their reliability. I've personally seen several with broken pistons and connecting rods sticking out of the block. What happened to you isn't that unusual; it can be repaired by replacing the cylinder liner and piston.
Ideally, you'd replace all four cylinder liners. You should also consult your trusted mechanic.
