Problem with a 2005 Fiat Palio. Posted by manual-mecanica
Hello, I'm requesting your help and opinion. I'm having problems with a 2005 Fiat Palio. This car stalls while in neutral and also when driving at low speeds, but only when I release the accelerator. It stalls and restarts immediately, but then stalls again after a short time. It's reporting fault code P0606,
which indicates a problem with the engine control module (ECU). The computer or engine control unit was checked and appears to be fine, and the entire throttle body was replaced with a new one, but the problem persists. I appreciate your comments. Thank you.

I had a similar problem a while back with a Punto Fire. If your model is a Fire (with electronic throttle), I replaced the entire module where the IAC valve and the throttle are located, but it was still the same. They sent it to the dealership, and they calibrated the throttle, and it improved. Try this before doing anything else because the other possibility is that the computer is faulty, and that costs a lot of money.

Hi, the universal fault code P0606 indicates a microprocessor control unit failure. It's very rare for that part of the ECU to be faulty; it mostly happens when they try to chip it or with poor workmanship. But if the fault persists, you have to replace the control unit. Regards.

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: failure in a 2005 Fiat Palio
Thanks for your comment and opinion. This car had a new throttle body replaced and calibrated, so I think the car's control module might be damaged. I'm in Monterrey, Mexico, and it's very difficult to get Fiat parts here. It took about 30 days to get the throttle body, and it was expensive, but I'll try to see what's wrong with this control unit.

Check if the ECU is a Delphi; if so, it's likely the cause of the problem. In any case, there are several procedures that can be performed with the original scanner or the DEC Automotive SuperScan to memorize the parameters for the throttle body.
Also, try memorizing the motorized throttle by turning the ignition on for 40 seconds without doing anything else. If the air filter isn't installed, you'll hear noises coming from the throttle body, which means it's searching for the stops to memorize them. Turn the ignition off, wait a few seconds, and that should do it.
If the problem is with the memorization, it may have been corrected; if not, the control unit is likely dead unless there's a bad ground or connection in the electrical wiring. Be careful with the connections to the main battery terminals.
Good luck and best regards.
