Changing piston rings on a 1.9 engine. Posted by manual-mecanica
Hello, I'm new to the forum and I'd like to take this opportunity to greet all the members and congratulate you on this community you've created. Now, on to my question: I have a 1993 Mercury Tracer with engine problems. It's a 1.9L. The problems started with a loss of power and engine vibration, then it started emitting a little smoke. According to a neighbor who is a mechanic, it could be the head gasket, a valve, or the piston rings, because spark plug #2 is showing oil on it. My question is, could someone provide me with the manual or the steps for disassembling and replacing the rings? Thank you in advance.

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: Changing piston rings in a 1.9 engine
Hello, good evening.
I'm a mechanic, but I haven't personally repaired your vehicle. I can tell you that I don't recommend you do the work yourself if you don't have the necessary experience. A lot of experience is required to get the job done perfectly. The engine is designed and manufactured to very high precision standards to achieve the power needed for movement, and any part that isn't in its correct position or doesn't meet the factory specifications or tolerances will result in an unsatisfactory job. In short, the best thing to do is take it to a specialist for an accurate diagnosis and reliable repair.
Good luck...
