Help with Chevrolet S15 2.8 TBI. Posted by manual-mecanica
Hello everyone.

This is my first time writing, and I'm doing so to ask for your help because I'm completely out of ideas with my 1987 S15 6-cylinder TBI 2.8L engine.
It all started because a friend foolishly connected the battery cables backward and left them like that for several minutes, which caused part of the computer to burn out. As a result, it wasn't sending negative pulses to the TBI injectors. Well, I opened the computer and found only a damaged diode, which I replaced, and it started sending pulses again. But after that, it only worked for a day, and now there was no spark. I replaced the distributor cap, distributor rotor, and spark plug wires—not just by chance, but because they were in very bad condition. But I still had no spark, so I tried another ignition module, and it was still faulty. Then I tested each wire from the distributor to the coil and the computer, and it turned out to be a broken wire going to the coil. Well, now it has spark and fuel injection, but it only runs for a few seconds and then shuts off. It seems like an injection problem to me, but the injectors appear to be working, though it seems insufficient. If I manually add fuel to the throttle body, the engine keeps running, but only until I stop, because it shuts off immediately.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful, as this has been going on for over two months and I really think I'm out of ideas.

Thanks

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: help with S15 Chevrolet 2.8 TBI
Hey buddy.
I'm Alonso from Huatabampo and I'm an electromechanical technician. The problem you're having with that truck is so easy
to fix. What you need to check is the power going to the computer. A fuse line located on the side, next to the driver's door, in the fender, might be broken. You have to check that it's getting 12 volts direct current.
Well, that's all from me. If it doesn't work tomorrow, I'll check it, and if it still doesn't work, I'll give you another option to look elsewhere.
You'll have to replace the computer if that line isn't broken. Well, see you
later and good luck.B)

Thank you very much for your response.

I checked it today, but I couldn't find the line you mentioned. One question: does it go to all the fuses? Or is it separate? Because all the fuses in the fuse panel seem fine. Do you happen to have the owner's manual for this truck?

Greetings and thanks

Manual-mechanics' response on the topic Re: help with S15 Chevrolet 2.8 TBI
Hello my friend.

Look, I don't have the manual, but I have the electrical diagram for the 1994 S10 TBI because the manual doesn't say anything, but the line I'm talking about is outside, under the engine block.
Attached to the driver's side fender, but to the side of the electronic ABS system, is a series of fuse lines, one of which goes to the oil pressure sensor and in turn to the computer.

For more information, I am free in the afternoons.
