Temperature sensor published by manual-mecanica
Hi everyone, I wanted to ask a question: are temperature sensors generic for all vehicles? I ask because I have a Rover 214si, and the temperature sensor is faulty. The quickest option I have is a temperature sensor from a Nissan V16, which is physically identical, but some people tell me that the sensors activate at different temperatures, and I don't know at what temperature the V16 sensor activates.
If anyone could shed some light on this, I would appreciate it.

Regards,

Javier.

Manual-Mecanica Response on the Re: Temperature sensor
Temperature sensors don't activate at any specific temperature; they're always functioning, whether the engine is cold or hot. What you need to check is the sensor's internal resistance. These sensors have ranges or scales, starting at 4.1 ohms and decreasing as the temperature increases. This affects the injection pulse, meaning the amount of time the injector is open, which in turn determines the amount of fuel injected. This is why, when they're faulty, cold starts are very difficult due to excess fuel. When the injector is cut off, it sends a starting signal of -40 degrees Celsius. Find the parameters and compare them; if they're the same, it will work. However, in most cases, they aren't generic.

Manual-Mecanica Response on the Re: Temperature sensor
Thank you very much for the information; the temperature sensor issue is very clear to me now. I think it's unlikely to work for me.
