Mitsubishi Montero. Published by manual-mecanica
Help! I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Montero 2.8L turbo intercooler diesel. When I start it in the morning (it's freezing cold), it starts right up, but after 20 or 30 seconds the engine starts to misfire until it stalls. When I try to start it again, it's very difficult, and when it does start, it emits a lot of smoke from the exhaust. I have to keep it at 2800 or 3000 RPM to prevent it from stalling. Once it warms up, it runs fine.
I would appreciate your advice. Thanks.

Well, my dear friend, what you need to check in these cases is the fuel pump and the injectors, since these often fail. In the case of the pump, it could be out of phase, and if the injectors are dirty, make sure they're working properly. Also, if it has glow plugs, try replacing them, depending on your model.

The injection pump has worn seals.
You need to replace the gasket and seal kit; it costs approximately 300 euros.

Hi, as others have already mentioned, check the glow plugs. I also recommend checking the fuel system for air leaks, water in the filter element, and any other leaks. Cheers!
