FORD EXPLORER ESPORTRAC 2005 Published by manual-mecanica
Hello, I have a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. It overheated, and I had to rebuild the engine, including replacing the cylinder heads. The problem is that after this repair, the engine won't start. If you look through the oil filler cap when you try to start it, gasoline vapor is blowing out, and the compression in each piston doesn't exceed 50 psi. My question is whether the problem could be with the pistons, rings, or cylinder heads. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Hi, there are two possibilities for why your engine won't start and has low compression:
the first could be incorrect timing,
the second could be that the lifters or tappets are worn.
I hope this solves your problem.

I would appreciate a response to my suggestions

I completely agree with Pomar. The low compression could be because the lifters haven't primed yet or because the engine timing is off. Now, the gasoline smell could mean the engine isn't getting spark and that it's saturated, allowing fuel to leak into the crankcase. Test for spark and other components, and if that doesn't work, try to provide more symptoms so we can help you better. We await your response.

With the overheating, it's very possible the piston rings have stuck, which is why you have low compression. Also, if you replaced the cylinder head, the timing belt might not be properly aligned.
I recommend checking the compression and making sure it's low; good compression is around 150 psi.

Hi, thanks for your reply, but I already checked that and the hydraulic lifters are fine too. My question is whether the piston rings aren't providing good compression.
