Hi, friend:
This 406 model probably has a dual-mass flywheel clutch, which, apart from causing the same problems as the common ones and other unique ones, is much more expensive.
Okay, the most common failures in these dual-mass flywheels are:
1) Squeaking (crickets, according to a Spanish friend) when the car is idling, which foreshadows a not very imminent but inevitable breakage, and in that case, you must replace the entire assembly: dual-mass flywheel plus the disc itself and its throw-out bearing (here called "throttle bearing"). Cost of the part in Argentina, about US$1000
2) Clutch slippage: only the disc and the Luk brand thrust bearing are available as spare parts and cost about US$350 in Argentina.
If you don't have those rattles, just change the clutch disc and release bearing and it'll be fine. I did it on my 406 HDI. The labor cost at the garage, which is quite simple and anyone with a bit of know-how can do it, shouldn't be more than what you'd charge for changing a regular clutch, since removing and installing it is exactly the same in both cases and doesn't even require special tools.
Luck.
I need the wiring diagrams for a 2005 Peugeot 407 HDI Tiptronic 2.0. Can anyone help me?
Hugs and I'm here.
