Hello, I'm writing with the following question: I had problems with the front 4x4 CV joint on my 1997 Grand Cherokee Limited. It maintains permanent traction to the wheels. I bought a replacement part, and they installed it, but the problems started: I took a 1209 km round trip and it showed the following signs:
it started making a very loud noise while driving (like a damaged hub), then when using the brakes, it was difficult to apply them and eventually they stopped working altogether. Normally, my fuel consumption is negligible on those kilometers, but this time it used up all the fuel, and to avoid damaging parts, I removed it again. Now I'm driving without traction.
I checked the axles, drive shafts, etc., and everything seems fine. The CV joint assembly and driveshaft are fine.
Could it have been installed incorrectly? Does it have a specific orientation? It was done at a local shop, and now I'm afraid to take it back to them for fear of damaging parts.
Can you advise me? Thank you. Regards,

Bafo.

Manual-mechanical response on the topic of problems in a newly repaired front-end 4x4.
Hi, if you only replaced the CV joint, you shouldn't have any problems. But if they repaired the front differential, the gear ratios are probably not the same as before. Connect it, lift two wheels (one on each axle), mark a reference point, and rotate one of the wheels 10 times. See if the wheel on the other axle also rotates the same amount. This assumes the wheels are the same size. Regards, Pedro Mesquita
