Manual-mechanics response on the topic of Alternator Failures
So, the problems any alternator has are that it won't charge due to lack of excitation (the excitation cable isn't receiving current), then there's the wear of the regulator brushes, which also prevents it from charging the battery, and the rectifier or diode bridge, which, when it fails, also stops charging. There are also bearing problems caused by overtightening the belt. Cheers!
