Synchronization dentas published by Manual-Mecanica
Hello, everyone.
Reading some mechanical forums on the web, I am struck that many mechanics do not know the replacement and adjustment of the distribution straps (time) in the engines that use them; especially of the Chevrolet E-Tec 1,6 engine.
I have read some mechanics that comment that the new belt is shorter than they are replacing; Obviously, they do not know that they must loosen the water pump fixing screws, move it to extract the belt that will be replaced, install the new one and make the adjustment through it.
To my workshop recently reached a bird that had been replaced by the belt in September last year. Without having traveled 10,000 km, the belt broke and folded at least 6 valves.
I make this comment so that those responsible for the workshops let their mechanics know how to replace and adjust these straps. On the web are many articles and manuals to carry out this procedure, depending on the brand of each vehicle.

Thanks for the comment, will I take it into account when I have to replace one of these straps, do not change the same as in the Astra?

Thanks for your interest in the subject. For sure, we have never changed the dent strap to an Astra; But, it must be as easy as others. What should not be done is to use screwdrivers (as I read in a forum) to pave the strap and take it to its place. I recommend my mechanical friends document well before doing any type of mechanical work (procedures, torques, etc).

Manual-Mecanica Response on the Re: Synchronization dent belts
Hello friends, I comment with respect to the E TEC 1.6 dent strap the procedure that I applied is as follows: The Teso Skate has a base with 3 screws, I only put one while I make the assembly like this the belt enters very easy, then I put the two remaining screws and make the adjustments, I give two turns to the engine manually to verify that it sets well before giving on

Manual-Mecanica Response on the Re: Synchronization dent belts
According to the technical information I have, the water pump must be loosen and turn it both to remove the old strap and to install and adjust the new one. We have done it that way and the replacement is very easy. I fabris a special tool to perform the water pump turn. This is coupled in the hexagonal part of the pump body, behind the pulley.
