Nissan Murano. Published by manual-mecanica
Hello, I'd like to know if it's true that cleaning the engine internally with certain chemicals can help stop the car from emitting oil smoke. This problem only occurs on the first start, and the mechanic told me that cleaning the engine would fix it. Thanks.

Manual-Mecanica Response on the Re: Nissan Murano
Hi, the mechanic who advised you to do that cleaning thing is completely wrong. First, if it smokes when you start the car, it would be one of two types: white or bluish-white. If the smoke is always present when you start the car, whether it's cold or hot, and it's blue, it could be valve stem seals. Check the oil consumption between oil changes. If, when starting the car cold, the smoke is white and it also hesitates a bit when accelerating, it could be a problem with one or more glow plugs, or the hydraulic lifters might be failing when cold because the oil viscosity grade is too high. For example, if the vehicle should use SAE 10W40 and you put in... 20W50. It would be very helpful to know the engine's mileage, whether it consumes oil and how much, whether it smokes when starting (both cold and hot), if it misfires when starting, and if it smokes while driving. When you have an oil consumption problem, there's no product to fix it, especially in a new car. Best regards.

Manual-Mecanica Response on the Re: Nissan Murano
That mechanic is wrong. If it's white only when starting, it could be the valve stem seals. If it's black when starting, an injector is stuck open, meaning it's leaking fuel. From what I know, when it smokes from oil, there are no products that eliminate it, and the ones that claim to remove it don't actually eliminate it. What they do is mask the color of the smoke due to the reaction; they disguise it.

Manual-Mecanica Response on the Re: Nissan Murano
OK, THANKS TO BOTH OF YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS, AND YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. THE MECHANIC ONLY CHANGED THE OIL AND APPLIED LIQUI MOLY TO SEAL IT. THE SMOKE IS STILL COMING OUT, AND I'M GOING TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO WILL TELL ME ABOUT THE VALVES.

Manual-Mecanica Response on the Re: Nissan Murano
Hello, good afternoon.
The comments written here will always be helpful in trying to solve a problem. And as mentioned before, it's necessary to know approximately the mileage of your vehicle because perhaps the problem causing the smoke is indeed the valve stem seals, which may have lost their seal on the valve. However, if your engine has a high mileage, the valve stem seals may have failed due to excessive wear between the valve guide and the valve itself. So, what will happen if you only replace the valve stem seals? Evaluate it and let us know.
Good luck.
