Berlina Ford Escort Start published by Manual-Mecanica
Good greetings to the whole community!

I write this message in search of help for a problem that gives me that it is serious.

I have a Ford Escort Berlina 1,600 cc 16V Motor Zetec of injection, well the problem is that I had a time stopped, for problems with the Board of the Culata, I put it in the garage with my father and we managed to fix the subject, in the manual I specified that on the 5000 km of the reappriete. The car was stopped a few weeks pending arrangement and that is when the problem began.

When stopping, the car drums were discharged, the dry one of the same and my father, (this will sound a little cafre but it is true) when I take the battery I think it did the other way around since when I put it back in the car, black positive red and earth to the negative at one time in a moment began to leave smoke, then disconnected the battery and my doubt begins here.

That parts of the electrical circuit can have been damaged, in principle I have not dared to put hand in the car since I would not want to give blind sticks by disassembling pieces, what parts are the most susceptible to having damaged?, Alternate starter engine, any other piece?

I would very much appreciate your help and advice

good greeting to all!

Most likely, the alternator diodes have jumped and all the fuses and relaxes must Easter for you and for all the colleagues on the site.

Check the fuses and relays, both those of the box and those of the engine compartment and are in good condition, the relays of the picture are apparently well, I imagine that you have to remove the plastic housing to really know if they are melted although I do not know how to do it without breaking the housing, the sideburns do not show indications of burns, the ECC unit seems to be in good condition.

The conductive cables do not present any deterioration in terms of their coating.

For the place where the small smoke thread came out, the air entrance area to the injection, I suppose that the susceptible part of being burned would be the starter engine if I am not mistaken is the piece that is underneath already the one that the negative and positive cables arrive.

How should I proceed? Disassemble the starter engine in search of burns?, Try a new battery, to see if it starts?

Manual-Mecanica Answer on the Re: Berlina Ford Escort
Jal, the diodes of those who speak to me are part of the alternator? I know what is its operation but .. would you have to disassemble the alternator to be able to check them or are connected before the same in the cable that reaches it?

Thanks for attending me! All the best!

The diodes are incorporated into the alternator disassemble and check it to see the boot engine also take it out and test it with a battery in good condition, if all this normal place the battery connecting the positive terminal first and then supports the negative in the negative terminal to see if there is no strong discharge if it goes well connect it and try to start it. You are wrong and keep me informed.
